Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The FCC publishes regulations in two different places:

• Title 47 CFR Telecommunications - These may be found in the electronic Code of Federal Regulations (eCFR)
• Knowledge Database (KDBs) - These are supplementary rules and regulations published by the FCC in order to clarify and provide guidance on matters touched on in Title 47; a list of KDBs may be found here

Unintentional radiators may be exempted from routine tests and equipment authorization procedures if it fulfill conditions listed in 47 CFR 15.103. All intentional radiators require certification since they require the use of radio spectrum in order to perform its function.

• Class A digital devices are intended for use in a commercial or industrial environment where greater precautions for safety may be arranged.
• Class B digital devices are marketed for use in residential areas. Limits for Class B digital devices are generally more strict that that introduced for Class A digital devices, and hence the use of Class B digital devices in industrial environments is permitted.

• Supplier's Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) does not require the applicant to file any documents with the FCC.
• Certification requires the filing of all required exhibits to the FCC OET Filing website, which is carried out by TCBs. We make sure all information that you or an agent has submitted is uploaded onto the website when we obtain the grant of equipment authorization for you. These documents are published online almost immediately, so make sure to submit the appropriate requests for confidentiality with your application package should you wish.

Assuming the device remains electronically identical and there are no changes to the regulations that govern it, your grant and/or certificate will remain valid for an indefinite period of time.

NACS will provide its clients with notifications to changes in regulations which may affect the validity of any previous grants/certificates issued by us through email, so please ensure that the contact email we have on file is always up-to-date.

As a TCB, we are only allowed to certify products according to what the rules and regulations published by FCC state. It is possible that a competitor obtained explicit permission or exemptions from FCC and we encourage you to file a KDB inquiry regarding the matter.
